In Loving Memory of Jamarqari Burris

With a heavy heart, we share the tragic news of the passing of Mr. Jamarqari Burris, a 22-year-old young man whose life was cut short in a Thursday afternoon shooting along St. Gerard Avenue in Baton Rouge. His death was formally pronounced at the scene on November 20, 2025, after emergency responders found him with fatal gunshot wounds near the intersection of St. Gerard Avenue and East Brookstown Drive.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity, and Baton Rouge Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this senseless act of violence. While questions remain unanswered, the grief felt by Jamarqari’s family, friends, and community is immeasurable.
Jamarqari was a vibrant soul, remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy he brought into the lives of those around him. At just 22 years old, he was full of promise, with dreams and aspirations that should have stretched far into the future. His family recalls his laughter, his compassion, and his ability to make others feel valued and loved. Friends remember his energy, his loyalty, and the way he could brighten even the darkest of days.
Though his journey ended far too soon, Jamarqari’s legacy lives on in the love he shared and the memories he created. His passing is not only a personal tragedy but also a reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for peace and safety in our communities.
