With a heavy heart, we share the tragic passing of Officer Alec Sanders, age 28, of the Alhambra Police Department. Officer Sanders died in the line of duty after a pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle crash. His death occurred early Wednesday morning, marking a devastating loss for his family, colleagues, and the broader law enforcement community.
Officer Sanders had served with the Alhambra Police Department for only eight months, joining in April after previously serving with the Long Beach Police Department. Though his tenure was brief, his dedication and courage left a lasting impact. On the night of his death, he was not scheduled to work but stepped in to assist a colleague—a testament to his selflessness and commitment to protecting others. Alhambra Police Chief Garrett Kennedy shared that Officer Sanders embodied the values of service and sacrifice. His actions reflected the highest ideals of law enforcement, and his passing is a painful reminder of the risks officers face daily in their mission to safeguard the community.
Officer Sanders is survived by his parents, two sisters, brother, and fiancée. Their grief is immeasurable, as they mourn the loss of a beloved son, brother, and partner whose future was filled with promise. The tragic death of Officer Sanders brings to seven the total number of peace officers who have died in the line of duty serving the people of Los Angeles County in 2025.
