In Loving Memory of Mr. David “Dave” Patrick Galleo

With a heavy heart, we share the unexpected passing of Mr. David “Dave” Patrick Galleo, age 57, who departed this life on November 12, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. His death was the result of a sudden heart attack, leaving family, friends, and the military community in profound grief.
David was born on February 28, 1968, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to the late Thomas and Evelyn Galleo. Raised in rural Chatham County, he enjoyed a happy childhood alongside his siblings, where his love for family, service, and country took root early. After graduating from Northwood High School in 1986, David began a distinguished career of service, first in the United States Air Force, and later transferring into the United States Marine Corps.
During his Marine Corps career, Dave—affectionately known as “Gripper”—served with 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, 2d Force Reconnaissance Company, and Marine Special Operations Command. He completed numerous deployments, including combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, earning the respect and admiration of all who served alongside him. His devotion to mission and teammates was unwavering, and his presence left a lasting mark across the reconnaissance and special operations communities.
After retiring from active duty in 2011, Dave continued his life of service by joining the Marine Raider Training Center as a civilian instructor. There, he dedicated himself to teaching advanced concepts and preparing future generations of Marine Raiders. His impact extended far beyond the classroom—mentoring, guiding, and inspiring countless Marines and civilians who were fortunate enough to know him.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Andrea; his daughter, Taylor; stepsons, Tyler and James Owens; grandson, Kaden Owens; his brothers, Mike (Nancy) and Tommy (Renée); and his sister, Susan. He is preceded in death by his sister, Linda. He will be remembered for his loyalty, quiet professionalism, sense of humor, and deep love for his family and the Marine Raider community.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Cemetery, 211 Irwin Drive, Newton Grove, NC. A celebration of his life will follow on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at The Back Yard Tavern in Sneads Ferry, NC, where friends, teammates, and family will gather to honor his remarkable legacy.
