Hit-and-Run Driver Jailed After Wymondham High Academy Crash

Community Shock and Reflection Following Tragic Incident

With a heavy heart, we share this message. The community of Wymondham High Academy continues to process the devastating events of September 8, 2025, when a dangerous hit-and-run crash left a 13-year-old pupil hospitalized and another child traumatized.

The incident occurred on Folly Road just as pupils were leaving school at 3:30 p.m. Witnesses reported a Kia Sportage, driven by Georgie Theo, 28, mounting the kerb and crashing into a bus stop near the academy. One teenage girl suffered serious leg injuries and was rushed to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, while another pupil narrowly avoided being struck by diving into a hedge. She was later treated for shock. Court proceedings at Norwich Magistrates’ Court revealed that the vehicle had been taken without the owner’s consent. Prosecutor Sarah Fiddy described how CCTV footage captured the car swerving erratically, overtaking other vehicles, and ultimately mounting the pavement. Theo, who only held a provisional licence, abandoned the car nearby and fled across a field before later contacting the vehicle owner’s daughter, urging her to falsely report the car stolen.

Theo, of Fairlight Avenue in Ramsgate, was arrested in Kent and initially denied driving dangerously, calling the crash an “act of God.” However, he later pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and failing to report an accident. Magistrates sentenced him to 36 weeks in jail and imposed a two-year, four-month driving ban, noting the seriousness of the offences, the vulnerable age of the victims, and his attempt to evade responsibility. “We have spent a good deal of time thinking if we could suspend a prison sentence and we have concluded we cannot,” the court stated.

While justice has been served, the emotional impact of the crash remains profound. The young victims, their families, and the school community continue to cope with the trauma of that day. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and accountability, especially near schools where children are most vulnerable.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to the injured pupil, her family, and all those affected. May healing and strength surround them as they recover from this tragic event.
