In Loving Memory of Makih Franklin (“Grit Mode”)

With a heavy heart, we share the tragic passing of Mr. Makih Franklin, affectionately known as “Grit Mode”, who died at the young age of 22 after being involved in a shooting late Tuesday evening in Kansas City, Kansas. His death has left family, friends, and the wider community in deep mourning, as they remember a young man whose ambition, compassion, and dedication touched countless lives.
Makih was more than the circumstances of his passing. He was a beloved son, friend, and mentor whose presence brought light and encouragement to those around him. Known for his involvement in local basketball leagues and mentorship programs, Makih dedicated himself to inspiring younger participants, offering guidance, motivation, and a positive example. His passion for sports was matched by his commitment to building community, and his influence will continue to resonate in the lives of those he mentored.
Residents recall his energy, his determination, and his ability to uplift others. He was a young man who embodied resilience and hope, always striving to make a difference. His nickname, “Grit Mode”, reflected not only his approach to basketball but also his approach to life — persistent, determined, and full of heart.On the evening of November 18, emergency crews responded quickly to reports of gunfire on the 1300 block of East 24th Street. Despite their efforts, Makih was discovered deceased, leaving behind a community shaken by the sudden loss. Detectives continue to investigate the incident, urging anyone with information to come forward, as loved ones seek answers and justice.
As Kansas City grieves, the community is also coming together to celebrate Makih’s legacy. His memory will live on through the stories shared, the lives he touched, and the inspiration he provided to so many.Our deepest condolences are extended to Makih’s family, friends, and all who mourn his death.
