In Loving Memory of Gary “Mani” Mounfield

With a heavy heart, we share the passing of Mr. Gary “Mani” Mounfield, legendary bassist of the Stone Roses and later Primal Scream, who died at the age of 63. His death was announced by his brother Greg, who wrote, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother Gary Mani Mounfield.” Though the official cause of death has not yet been disclosed, the outpouring of tributes from bandmates, friends, and fans reflects the immense impact Mani had on music and on the lives of those who knew him.
Born in Manchester, Gary Mounfield became a central figure in the British music scene, helping to shape the sound of the late 1980s and 1990s. As bassist for the Stone Roses, he contributed to their groundbreaking self-titled debut album in 1989, a record that defined a generation and continues to inspire musicians worldwide. After the Stone Roses disbanded, Mani joined Primal Scream, bringing his distinctive style and energy to another era of influential music. The Stone Roses reunited in 2011, thrilling fans once again, before disbanding in 2017.
